Become a Volunteer!

ATRO provides volunteer training for interested individuals who wish to assist with the therapeutic riding sessions. Volunteers are needed for horse handling and in assisting directly with the students. Volunteers are required to attend specialized training for each of the different areas of assistance. Initial training is focused on the individuals and then selected volunteers may qualify for further training in horse handling. Training sessions are usually held monthly, and are free of charge. Once the initial training session is completed, volunteers are allowed to work at the riding center. All ATRO volunteers are covered under the organization's insurance policy.

Our current volunteer/instructor base includes physical and psychotherapists as well as other health professionals and community members. We hope that our volunteer base continues to grow. If you would like to volunteer, please contact us.

ATRO will gladly work with the medical community in training or answering questions regarding therapeutic riding or hippotherapy.

"At Cherokee Ridge"

  Sometimes at night

 When dust and gravel

 Sift through my brain

 I go to Cherokee Ridge

 Where the sun basks

On women who get up close,

 Dip into pots

 And smear pictures

 On live horses,

 The colors blooming on

 The backs of horses

 The colors blooming out

 Of fingers

 In Rosie's mane

I am in my granddaughter's hair

 Smoothing out tangles

 Minding the brushstrokes

 Flowers here are lifted

 Freed from their cases

We set them in warm beds.

 We comb until something blossoms
