Val is a Halflinger pony who is 8 years old and stands 1IMG Val3.1 hands high. He is quite stout at 807 pounds and is palomino in color. Val was born at Highland Farms on January 23, 2008. His ground work was done by Dixie Ferrata and Erin Guillory before being sent to Scott Bourgeois for training at 4 years of age. His owner is away at college and if she can’t be riding him, she would like for him to have a job. He is quite capable and can be ridden in English or Western tack, independently, with a leader or even driven from behind.

"At Cherokee Ridge"

  Sometimes at night

 When dust and gravel

 Sift through my brain

 I go to Cherokee Ridge

 Where the sun basks

On women who get up close,

 Dip into pots

 And smear pictures

 On live horses,

 The colors blooming on

 The backs of horses

 The colors blooming out

 Of fingers

 In Rosie's mane

I am in my granddaughter's hair

 Smoothing out tangles

 Minding the brushstrokes

 Flowers here are lifted

 Freed from their cases

We set them in warm beds.

 We comb until something blossoms
